Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Although we had difficulties trying to communicate with the owner because of the language barrier, he tried to offer solutions to make our stay more comfortable. The center of Chiang Mai is within walking distance.

Negative: When we arrived around 8pm, while we messaged him we would be late, he clearly didn't expect us. Everything in his demeanour made us think he never checks booking.com and he doesn't know if someone is arriving. He only speaks Chinese which made it much more difficult. We were lucky when he told us there was still a room, while we clearly booked it. He quickly 'cleaned' the room for us. The room wasn't clean, the doorknobs felt greasy, there were still old towels in the bathroom and the toilet was not cleaned in ages. It felt like a spare, unused room which didn't look like the pictures at all. Luckily we saw him change the sheets, but even then it didn't have a clean feeling to it as the blankets had no covers. There were no other availabilities in town as it was around Loi Kratong, so we cleaned the room ourselves the next day and made the best of it. Our room looked out on the inner courtyard where people ate their breakfast and like almost everywhere no good insulation equaled early mornings with always a lot of noise, either from people or the alarm of their kitchen equipment We saw three separate people arrive the next morning while there was only one free room. Probably because he kindly lets people stay on longer without checking for new arrivals from Booking.com.

Summary: They were clearly not expecting us!!!
