Positive: + A very pleasant and restful stay in a recently completed barn conversion. We liked the stylish modern decor and excellent studio-style kitchenette area with 4 ring hob, excellent large kettle, fridge, oven etc. + We appreciated the very nice Smart TV and excellent Phillips Sound System: good to have these available on wet and windy spring evenings! + We were made very welcome, in spite of the hostess herself having been taken ill just prior to our arrival. Our host Jeroen was upbeat and helpful, readily available via the smart security video camera doorbell. + Access to the holiday home itself is by Smart Pushbutton Code & use of Smart Key. . . A little disconcerting though, when the front door handle keeps talking out aloud at random times all day and night long.
Negative: - We were a little disappointed to discover on arrival that this small holiday home is in fact located IN THE BACK YARD of the owners’ own property. The access is through a narrow walkway encased in tall wooden panelling between neighbouring houses - a little strange initially as one squeezes past a row of bins to come and go. - Beautiful though the holiday property is - spending time here feels quite ENCLOSED, especially if one is used to open spaces and views. There are NO VIEWS - the back window gives out onto a small outdoor patio area, enclosed by tall wooden fencing (above head-height). - The description posted by the owners describes a holiday home “met eigen tuin”. Personally, I would hesitate to describe the outside space as a “tuin” or garden: it is merely a small enclosed INNER COURTYARD with a garden-table and 4 chairs on concrete slabs. Certainly it is a pleasant and private outside terras-style space on a sunny evening, with some plastic plants for decor/atmosphere but a “garden” it is not. - The WC and BATHROOM are on the ground floor, the two bedrooms are in the sloping attic space. At night there is the spiral staircase to negotiate with care. It is also a little tricky to manoeuvre around the beds in the rather compact roof space. A good shower but the shower cubicle could do with a soap-dish or small shelf so that one doesn’t have to put soap/shampoo on the floor. A foot-mat to step out onto after showering would have been nice. A hairdryer would have been helpful too - especially as the mornings were quite chilly. - The kitchenette has a fair range of cooking pots available, although to our surprise 2 saucepans in the drawer were RUSTING: one pot sat inside the other, in a dried puddle of rust - clearly they had not been properly dried by previous users … but this must have been some time ago for the pots to rust. Perhaps the cleanliness of kitchen utensils would have been inspected more thoroughly if the hostess had not been taken ill.
